Bishops of Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean Issue Joint Call for Climate Justice

Inspired by both Laudato Si’ and Laudate Deum by Pope Francis, and by Pope Leo XIV’s call at the beginning of his pontificate to live an integral ecology with justice, the Catholic Bishops from the Global South, representing 820 million Catholics,  have issued a 34-page statement in advance of COP30, urging governments to work for an ambitious implementation of the Paris Agreement for the benefit of people and the planet.

The statement is the first-ever joint appeal issued by these Bishops conferences who share a common conviction: “without climate justice there is no peace, without ecological conversion there is no future, without listening to the people there are no real solutions”.

The Bishops make their stance clear:

“The Catholic Church present in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean…offers this document as an expression of its unwavering commitment to human dignity, peace, the preferential option for the impoverished, climate and social-ecological justice, and the care of our Common Home.”
