World Wildlife Day is a reminder that our planet is home to every life form we know. We share our common home.
This year's theme 'Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining people and planet' highlights the central role of forests, forest species and ecosystems services 'in sustaining the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people globally, and particularly of Indigenous and local communities with historic ties to forested and forest-adjacent areas'.
Peter Wohlleben, author of 'The Hidden Life of Trees' tells us “When you know that trees experience pain and have memories and that tree parents live together with their children, then you can no longer just chop them down and disrupt their lives with larger machines.” |
