The "United in Science 2021" Report compiled by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on behalf of the United Nations Secretary General to bring together the latest climate science related updates from a group of key global partner organizations, was released on 16 September providing scientific proof that climate change is moving faster than predicted. Ten year-old singer Jessie Lou Harvie features, together with hundreds of young people, in this beautiful new music video 'From a Distance' - filmed by Sancta Familia Media in various locations in Glasgow. The song calls on everyone involved in the climate movement but, most especially, the world leaders coming to Glasgow for COP26 in November to act to 'Save Our Common Home'.
“For more than a year, we have all experienced the devastating effects of a global pandemic—all of us, whether poor or wealthy, weak or strong. Some were more protected or vulnerable than others, but the rapidly-spreading infection meant that we have depended on each other in our efforts to stay safe. We realised that, in facing this worldwide calamity, no one is safe until everyone is safe, that our actions really do affect one another, and that what we do today affects what happens tomorrow. ”
These observations begin the “Joint Message for the Protection of Creation” issued on 1 September by Pope Francis, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, and Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, "compelled to address together the urgency of environmental sustainability, its impact on persistent poverty, and the importance of global cooperation". The message calls on each one of us to take responsibility for the ways we use resources and to work together for the common good. The annual Season of Creation (1 September-4 October) is now underway. Once more we are called to reflect and act with greater depth, urgency, and seriousness in the face of what is being recognised as “humanity’s defining challenge.” This latest video from the Pope's Worldwide Prayer network urges us all to adopt "An Environmentally Sustainable Lifestyle". As part of initiatives for the celebrations, the Laudato Si' Movement invites Christians to sign and promote the Healthy Planet, Healthy People Petition, which will be presented to world leaders at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland in November. |
