#Shape our Future is the theme of this year’s Earth Hour, being held on Saturday 26 March at 8.30pm local time. It’s never been more critical to come together to protect our world than at this moment. We’ve watched Australian communities and wildlife endure raging bushfires and devastating floods in quick succession. Switch off and join a worldwide community of millions supporting stronger action on climate change. #Shape our Future is about what we can each do in our daily lives to make a difference for the future of our planet. There are many actions that can be taken and reflected upon, apart from turning off lights for an hour this Saturday if that's not possible or safe to do. Here are some suggestions
Human-induced climate change is causing dangerous and widespread disruption in nature and is affecting the lives of billions of people around the world, said scientists in the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, released Monday, 28 February 2022. People and ecosystems least able to cope are being hardest hit.
“This report is a dire warning about the consequences of inaction,” said Hoesung Lee, Chair of the IPCC. “It shows that climate change is a grave and mounting threat to our wellbeing and a healthy planet. Our actions today will shape how people adapt and nature responds to increasing climate risks.” “The G20 must lead the way, or humanity will pay an even more tragic price,” the UN Secretary-General said. “I know people everywhere are anxious and angry. I am, too. Now is the time to turn rage into action.” Watch the report trailer (2:57) |
